
Boldon Auction Galleries last Antique Sale of 2009 was a sparkling success, the highlight of the sale being a 3.27ct emerald cut diamond ring selling for £10,700.
A silver five-piece tea set made in London, 1903 sold for £980 and a beautifully crafted Victorian silver inkstand (Lot 354) with pierced fretwork border sold to an internet bidder for £600.
The star of the Picture section was Lot 390 a simple pen drawing signed by local artist Norman Cornish of a Miner pushing his bike towards the pit in a Winter Landscape. This lot sold well above estimate for £1,600.
Eastern influences proved popular with a Middle Eastern refectory table realising £950 and a large Canton enamel vase selling for £510.
As usual we had a varied selection of items of local interest including lot 5 A Sunderland purple lustre circular bowl which made £210, Lot 55 A Sunderland purple lustre rectangular plaque ‘Prepare To Meet thy God’ selling for £200 and other Sunderland lustre bowls and plaques, Maling jars and bowls and North Eastern postcards and books.
An oak box with engraved plaque having views of Newcastle, inscribed ‘Newcastle and District Motor Club awarded to P.F. Parker, All Night run to Edinburgh May 19/20th 1928’ sold against an estimate of £40-60 for £260 on the telephone.
